A petition has been launched in Vienna by the Green Party (die Grünen) opposing plans to raise the price of the Wiener Linien annual public transport pass from €365 to €467 starting in 2026.

Critics argue that the increase, exceeding €100, undermines affordable mobility in the city and places an additional burden on households during a period of rising living costs.

The annual pass, introduced in 2012, has long been promoted as a symbol of climate-friendly and accessible transport, offering travel for roughly one euro per day.

The city government has defended the planned fare adjustment, citing inflation and rising operating costs.
